Collins' Engineer's Diary for the year 1940 This original diary from 1940 contains 170 pages similar to the ones in my photograph of Engineering tables. Diagrams, statistics, etc in mind-numbing detail. The diary covers the full year of 1940 and contains no entries; it is completely unused. It also has the usual'cash account' pages. memorandum' etc at the end, and some pages of small scale graph paper. The cover is either leather or faux leather; I am not sure which. The spine is basically sound; there are zero loose pages. The diary has been referred to; it has all the usual signs of being thumbed through so is not in pristine condition; it has a few minor dogears. Scuffs, a couple of pencil marks, and two pages(in the diary for February) are somewhat discoloured in one ... morecorner. That's me just being pernickity and pointing out all the minor faults that i can see; generally. It is in good condition. This is a genuine Variac variable autotransformer. Made by Zenith Electric Company. It's old- I don't know exactly how old- but works well. I've tested it on a 230V mains supply and the no-load input current was 350mA(so there are no shorted turns) and the output varied smoothly from zero to 230V. I checked its insulation resistance at 500V and it's well over 20MOhm, as it should be. There seems to be plenty of wear left in the brush. The terminals have their nuts and washers present. It has a 230V input and both 115V fixed and 0-230V variable outputs. So it's a really handy device. It's rated at 8 amps or a maximum of 2kVA at full output. It's a big. These were functioning perfectly at time of removal and were recently tested. Not due for retest until 2015. I am offering these at a substantial discount because they are missing the current pickup harness. This is available from Schweitzer I'm sure, in varying lengths for new equipment installation.
