This is a military item. A bolometer(resistive) infrared sensor with a large Germanium primary lens, a little over 3 inches in diameter. It is actually an IR telescope with two more internal IR lenses before the bolometer. I have actually ran it and it has a resistance of about two megaOhms. You read it with a Wheatstone bridge and differential amplifier. The detector and third lens can be removed by a twist of the knurled part at the back.
