I thought that I was going into Cardiology. But decided on a surgical sub, so I have no need for such a nice stethoscope. I completely refurbished this one though. Thoroughly cleaning it and even tracking down some new replacement OEM tubing as the original, old rubber was getting a little sticky. My idea of refurbishing is to replace everything with original, factory spec parts, so while I could have just pulled the tubing off of a $10 sprague rappaport nursing scope, I spent the time and considerable money making sure that everything was just right. The audio quality on these stethoscopes is really amazing. I compared it to the Littmann Cardiology and the newer Littmann top of the line model with the tunable diaphragm. The HP scope isn't the loudest. But something about the quality of ... morethe tone made it easier for this novice to detect cardiac murmors. The small bells is in good shape. The large diaphragm. And the piece that it screws into is in good shape-and this is extremely rare. I've had a couple of these as I collected all of the parts to fix these up, and the back piece of the large diaphragm is frequently cracked. Not here! These scopes require a great deal of care with the plastic/acrylic parts. They're wonderful, but reserve an all metal model for your'beater' scope. The ID/name tags are included as a free bonus; I had extras. Pass them out at the nurses station if you like. But figured it was better than tossing them. The box is from a different stethoscope.
