This is a Westinghouse Type D2 Direct Current Street Railway Relay built in 1929 which was installed at the South Hills Junction Power Station of the Pittsburgh Railways Co. in 1930 until taken out of service in 1986. It was the main protective relay on the output side of the 2000 kW Rotary Converter No. 2 at South Hills Junction which powered the Mt Washington Tunnel. Parts of Downtown Pittsburgh and trolley routes(42/38, 44,47, 48, 49, 35, 36,37) The relay is glass enclosed, in mint condition and is the last known Westinghouse D2 relay from the Pittsburgh system in existance. It is Westinghouse Style 680315-B, serial No. 115640 with a 125 Volt DC stationary coil and a current shunt input up to 10 mV. The only thing that is printed on it is on a tag inside the glass dome it reads" A 4,8 Testing Constant 750" There is part of a paper label on the back but it mostly unreadable. The glass dome can be removed it is only attached by two threaded stems that run through the front of the glass. This is a very heavy metal meter I believe it is made of cast iron. I do not see any chips or cracks to the glass dome, but the metal meter is in need of some restoration, this is basically a what you see is what you get auction.
