This unit has been used only in our design laboratory and appears to still be in excellent condition. It powers up fine and we have pushed every button they all seem to operate as they should. We also made a few basic measurements. However it must be noted that although generally familiar with test equipment we no longer have anyone here with detailed knowledge of this particular device. Heathkit IT-28 Capacitor Checker serviced and calibrated. The electrical circuit has been gone through and any components found out of tolerance have been replaced. All contacts and switches have been flushed with a quick drying contact cleaner which does not contain lubricants which can soak into the wafer boards causing other issues, and finally this was calibrated according the Heathkit manual. The original IT-28 manual is not available but included will be a photo copy of the operation and calibration pages from my HK IT-11, there are no real differences between the IT-11 and the IT-28 other than age and cosmetics. While these are not highly accurate testers the test readings I obtained using this over 2 days testing many caps were close to my digital meter and are more than sufficient ... morefor use in vintage electronics, these are great easy to use units for finding leaky capacitors and reforming old electrolytics. As I remember. This came from a surplus equipment auction from Los Alamos National Lab. This unit powers up, but I could not get it to measure a resistance. I do not know if it is because I am not operating it correctly or it has a problem; nevertheless, it is being sold as-is for repair, parts or display. It seems complete and clean electronically, but on the outside, I noticed it is missing the front cover, two plastic windows(over the AC Null eye tube display and the RCL selector) and some of the feet on the back and bottom. The outside is in decent condition for being probably from the 1960s, but it is not pristine as it has some scratches, scuffs, and some some writing on the top. It has a 12AT7 and 12AX7 tube that both test good. It also has a EM87 eye tube which seemed not easy to remove ... moreso I did not test it but it has a bright display. I do not have a manual for it. This is a very useful test equipment. Measures resistance. Capacitence, inductance, and combinations each. Built by Clough Bringle for the navy circa 1950-55. Was considered a industry standard for years by private as well as industrial uses. Lid is missing during last move. But manuals are available for free from virhistory.com/navy/manuals-test.htm used it about 10 years ago and worked. Dusty from storage. This auction is for a vintage Heathkit Model IT-28 Capacitor checker/Resistance bridge. It contains the following tubes: 6AX4. 6BN8. And a 6E5 green eye indicator tube. I took the cover off and removed and tested the tubes. All tubes tested great! The 6BN8 had strong readings on all three sections and the 6AX4 had a strong reading. The 6E5 tube was bright green in both the open and closed positions on the tester. No further testing has been done with this instrument. So I am uncertain about it's calibration or general working condition. All the switches and knobs seem to work fine and it is in nice overall condition with just a little wear and staining.
