These items are being sold as-is, no returns accepted. The Calibration unit makes steady noise when powered on. It's not very loud at arms length. But is audible. The SPL meter responds differently to sound based on the DB range setting. In a manner that you would expect it to: higher DB settings make the needle respond less to the same input. If for any reason you want to investigate an amp/preamp characteristics using various types of waves it may be worth considering to use an external signal generator. U p for auction is a VINTAGE VACUUM TUBE CHECKER TYPE B. This tube tester is working as of right now. But as with any piece of vintage testing equipment it can work one time and then not the next. This test is very clean for it's age. There is a piece of the case that broke off on the right side(see picture) but it has been glued back on. The three test buttons have some slight signs of wear. The face plate has the numbers of the tubes listed on it so no manual is necessary to use it. Photos show setting at"Batt" to show that the indicator works, but I tried it next to audio and it does register the decibels. I will not include the battery in shipment, just FYI. I do not have the manual to describe the"Weighting: A-C" and"Response: Slow-Fast" specific functions, but see below. This belonged to my late dad who used it often for testing the decibel range of R/C radio control model airplanes and how mufflers affected the sound. This has been in the family. Phasing the speakers is a relatively easy task. By connecting the speakers by polarity dots or switching the leads from one speaker and listening for the most solid bass response and best stereo centering, proper phasing is accomplished. However. If more than one amplifier is used such as in biamp and triamp systems, phasing can become a horror show. Unless the amplifiers are identical(i.e.the same phase shift in each) wiring up the speakers by polarity will not work. Here is a sound spectrometer from the Industrial Acoustic Company. Overall cosmetic condition is good. There is some slight rust on back side of the battery plate. I guess 9volts were thinner back in the day, I could not fit all three in the clamp for it. The microphone is made by Electro-Voice. While batteries were attached, meter worked when microphone was attached and I spoke into it, the VU meter went to the right, however, that was the extent of testing, no professional, calibration equipment was connected to perform a better educated test. This is a beautiful piece of audio test equipment history in excellent original condition It is filled with precision attenuators. Resistors and switches, and is built like a tank(read: heavy! Being a passive device, it is likely working as it should, though due to its age, is being sold as is. I would imagine all the contacts would likely benefit from a quick cleaning, which is easily accomplished with the back cover removed, as shown in photo. These were very high end pieces of gear. Used primarily by the telco, radio, motion picture and television(this one came from ABC Hollywood) industries. Hello and welcome! This was part of an auction at a local university. I researched this item and it appears to be complete in the case with a couple of extra high dollar 1/2 inch Microphones. The 4930 is in good shape with minimal use and it is clean. It comes with all the original paperwork and accessories shown in the photos. It was last calibrated in 95. So that is probably going to need to be done. One of these 4930's will set you back 8-9 grand so I believe my price is right on. Of course the item is used and sold as-is and I have no way or knowledge to test it. Also the case has some of the wood laminate missing on the top as seen in the photo.
