HP 334A Distortion Analyzer This HP 334A Distortion Analyzer has been an excellent. Accurate and reliable piece of test equipment on my work bench for last 8 years. It has had no problems at all. It is very useful for accurate calibration, adjustment or analysis of amplifier characteristics and behavior(setting bias. Making circuit adjustments, prototyping, designing, troubleshooting, etc. All functions work properly on this unit. Although the spec says that it measures harmonic distortion down to 0.1% from 5 Hz to 600 kHz. The analyzer is capable of measuring down to 0.03% I have actually seen this when probing a Class-A vacuum tube amplifier with the filter switch applied and an originating signal generator producing a very clean sine-wave injected into the circuit! This is a very competent 1/3 Octave Real Time Analyzer that I have used in the past exclusively for system commissioning of permanently installed sound systems. It was not a touring item nor was it ever installed in any location as a system RTA. Other than taking it out of the bag to charge the internal battery. It spent most of it's life inside the padded bag. The finish blemishes(paint worn off) as shown in the pictures are from handling- but there are no dents or nicks. Everything works as advertised and other than some worn off finishes, it is in very good condition. I ran some comparative FFT test measurements on the included CM10 microphone versus a Crown TEF mic and also an NTI AL1 microphone- all were within reasonable tolerances of each other with the AudioControl mic tracking ... moreslightly closer to the more expensive TEF mic. This AudioControl Industrial 3050A has the printer option as well as the battery option for portable use. I charged the battery and powered it on today- it lasted for over 2 hours so I don't believe it has any sort of charge memory that would limit its use for tuning a system prior to getting the job completed. My favorite functionalities of this item are: 6 memory slots with the ability to instantly average any combination or all of them onboard- no external computer required Peak hold mode battery operation is a virtual necessity for efficient sound system measurements- this made life easier. The SPL read-out uses a large font making it visible from a distance. Note: I am including a Pentax Portable Thermal Printer(with a small supply of thermal printer paper) The Pentax can be charged and taken to a system installation site to print out the data from the RTA. I used this feature in a number of situations where I needed to leave a document on-site. All items that originally came with the Pentax(cables. Up for auction is a nice Amber Test set. Model 3501a. I've owned this for about 6 years and it has served me well. I also own other Tektronix, Fluke and H/P equipment and have decided to let some of my extra equipment go. This works well and has been used on and off since I've owned it. The only items to note about it is that it is missing the original button cap for the"Ground" switch(I've put a small white cap in it's place) It also has a bit of haziness to the meter face, not enough to keep from being able to read the meter, but not perfectly clear. All functions work and although I can't guarantee any type of calibration, it does give similar results for distortion and level as my Tektronix and Fluke equipment.
