I tested this HP 86242D plug-in. Which covers 5.9-9.0 GHz and it works fine, making better than 12 dBm across the band. While not the most useful range, it does cover the DSN band and would allow you to set up a cheap test bench for developing hardware. I do not have the scale for this, but it is new dress(modern colors) and is in good condition. This will work in the 8620 series of sweeper or with the 11869 adapter, it will work in the 8350. One thought to increase its usefullness is to use a 5.9 GHz"Brick" oscillator(PLO) mixer and low pass filter to make a 0-3 GHz sweeper setup(I have done this in the past) for very cheap! Have fun! This is a rack mount version of the standard type switched attenuator made by Texscan. This one is type SA90P(I guess P is for Panel Mount) standard 19 inch rack mount. Attenuator could be removed if desired. This is a total of 102 dB attenuator when all the switches are set, 50 ohm impedance. The NSA pulled the RF deck out, I guess for spare parts for other units. All of the 160 MHz IF stuff, synthesizer assemblies, digital control parts and the power supply are here. I figure these are rare enough that if someone needs parts or wants to tinker, that maybe they can use this. I sold all my HP8505 Network Analyzer systems. Then I found this test set hiding in my warehouse. It is a 75 ohm one(sorry! but you can use transformers, minimum loss pads or whatever for 50 ohms) Anyway if you do 75 ohm work and have a network analyzer like an 8505 or an 8754, etc. here is a chance to get a complete setup to measure all four S-parameters. I tested this HP 86222A plug-in. Which covers.01-2.4 GHz and it does work, even though it had been literally pitched into the trash. I straigtened some metal work and tidied it up a bit and power comes out, but it is not flat, but it is cheap! This is why I have listed it as for parts, as it is also missing the leveling board and another I do not recognize. I think some TLC would improve the flatness issue, like break/clean and remake every coax joint in the unit, etc. If you need a cheap source of RF in this range or have one that is dead, here is your chance.
