The HP8410 Vector Network Analyzer system is an amazing piece of test equipment. I learned this system in 1978. And have many today. They work well and are relatively inexpensive and maintainable. Mainframes, displays, etc are all available cheaply, sometimes at give-away prices! The key is a working HP8411A Harmonic Converter( a dual channel, tracking superheterodyne microwave converter, truly remarkable bit of technology from HP! Often, the ones available are damaged by the test channel sampler-mixer being blown out by too much applied RF power. If the sampler is dead, you have a problem! SO, here is the deal. I tested this HP 8411A and found it has a problem. But not dead samplers! Both RF channels, Test& Reference are working. What the problem is, is that the analog circuitry(DC mainly) ... morethat steers the internal LO(VCO, 70-140 MHz) is not tracking properly and the VCO cannot"lock-up" across a wide band. SO why do you want this? Because with two known good samplers, you can replace a blown test channel on two converters, spare parts for a long time for your system! OR, if you wish, you can troubleshoot the circuit and find out which resistor has drifted and fix this one(schematics are in the 8410/8411 manual) I have several working spares and decided that I will never need to scavenge this one, as I am pretty careful to not hurt them, so it is for sale. The pictures show you the unit, front& back, you can see opt 018, works to 18 GHz, you can also see the test stack, the 8410A with 8412A display which shows adequate refernce channel level, and the screen shows a swept trace meaning the test and reference channels are working. The last pic shows the method by which I test these with a power divider, pads and adapters, just like HP recommended! You are only getting the converter. I will have a working system for sale later.
